சிலம்பம் — The Bamboo Staff
Traditional Tamil Nadu Bamboo Staff Martial Art
Silambam is a traditional martial art from Tamil Nadu, South India, featuring the use of a bamboo staff. This ancient art has been practiced for centuries and is known for its flowing techniques, footwork, and staff manipulations.
The Silambam bamboo staff, typically about 6 feet in length, is used both for striking and sweeping movements. Practitioners develop exceptional agility, coordination, and balance through dedicated practice of Silambam forms and techniques.
At Shorinryu Bukenkan of India, we also teach Silambam Fencing as part of our comprehensive martial arts curriculum, combining the best of Okinawan and South Indian martial traditions.
