Matsubayashi — The Way of the Empty Hand

Hanshi Shoshin Nagamine (1907–1997) founded Shorin Ryu Matsubayashi Karate Do. He studied under Ankichi Arakaki and Chotoku Kyan Sensei. Practicing Karate for 75 of his 90 years, he earned world recognition and served as the first president of the Okinawa Shorin Ryu Karate Association.
He was awarded the prestigious 10th Dan Red Belt — the highest rank in Shorin Ryu Matsubayashi.
The art of Karate was developed in various parts of Okinawa. The style which was developed in Shuri came to be called as Shorin Ryu. The Shorin Ryu style emphasizes on speed, breathing, coordination, and internal peace.
Shorin Ryu Matsubayashi style was founded by O'Sensei Shoshin Nagamine, one of the most revered karate masters of the 20th century. He studied under Ankichi Arakaki and Chotoku Kyan Sensei.
Hanshi Katsuo Shiroma trained in Karate under O'Sensei Shoshin Nagamine. After his demise he developed a dojo under the name 'Bukenkan' — meaning "Art Focus School".
The Bukenkan Dojo in India is headed by Hanshi S. Rajamani who has practiced Shorin Ryu Karate from 1975, achieving the prestigious 10th Dan Red Belt — the first and only in India.
